Gaping Holes in Airline Security: Loaded Gun Slips Past TSA Screeners

Secret Tests At LAX, O’Hare, Newark Show TSA Screeners Missed Guns, Bombs

Last fall, as he had done hundreds of times, Iranian-American businessman Farid Seif passed through security at a Houston airport and boarded an international flight.

He didn’t realize he had forgotten to remove the loaded snub nose “baby” Glock pistol from his computer bag. But TSA officers never noticed as his bag glided along the belt and was x-rayed. My sister moved back to L.A. from NYC recently. After the movers had left with her furniture and boxes, she made a quick check to make sure she that nothing was left behind. On the floor, near some empty boxes she spotted the butcher knife she’d been using to cut the packing tape. She wrapped it in newspaper and tossed it into her carryon with the intention of putting it into her checked bag en route to JFK. The taxi was waiting when she got downstairs, and flustered about being late she totally forgot about the knife. It wasn’t until the ride to our house from LAX that she realized the knife was still in her bag and TSA had missed it when she’d gone thru security at JFK. (The blade on the knife is 10″!)
