Good point 'galegal', but your "flotsom and jetsom" went right over my head.

"Flotsam and jetsam meaning~
Ships' goods which are lost at sea. Also used figuratively in non-nautical contexts to means odds and ends, bits and pieces" ~ source: http://www.phrases.org.uk/

Thanks for the comment and reality check.

One BIG problem with this idea is that the flotsom and jetsom needs to be removed from the cabin and contained BEFORE landing as a matter of safety. In the event of an evacuation you really don't want to be tripping over all of this crap, do you?

I might have added, 'Stop wiping hands on the galley curtain' but perhaps that is not a do-able option.

Excellent article from AOL Travel "Do Electronic Gadgets Really Affect an Airplane's Instruments?"

From the article: "Shortly after boarding, flight attendants are required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to tell passengers to turn off all electronic devices including cell phones and laptop computers. But is it really necessary and what really happens if you don't?

The official reason for the requirement that electronic devices need to be turned off is to make sure passengers listen to the safety instructions from the flight attendants, reduce the presence of loose objects getting in the way in case of an emergency and to eliminate the possibility of the devices interfering with the airline's avionics."

As a mom of two young children (one who is still in diapers) and who has had to fly - where does the peeved flight attendant suggest I change my child's stinky diaper when the plane has no changing table and when the airplane manufacturers keep insisting that plane be the equal of sardine cans? I assure you that the airplane seat nor the tray table is my first choice either.

You ask "Is it really civilized to call any person an “Inconsiderate Reclining Airline Passenger”?"

Dear reader, thanks for the reply. We're not speaking of 'any' (reclining) passenger, only those who do so inconsiderately. We're talking inches here, but there's a big difference if you're on the back end.

For example, if I recline I seldom go all the way. And I always look back and at least have eye contact with the person seated behind before invading their space. And I'm not going to throw my seat back if he/she has a meal or laptop open on the tray table.

It's about consideration and moderation, not right or wrong.

I vote to allow you to make your own decision about your own seat and hope you will allow me the same.
