By
master-caution-switch

by Daddy Stork , full time pilot and part-time stay at home dad. In the cockpit, when an alarm sounds, the first response is to “Identify and Cancel” the warning. This is the call to acknowledge the source of the alarm, silence the warning and then determine a course of action. If there are several warnings, you prioritize them – often based on the color of the alarm. Yes, our planes are color coded. Cyan = Let’s hope it...

Headline of the day: “VIRGIN Bleeds as QANTAS Holds Firm”

June 1, 2010
By
What's in a headline?

Virgin Bleeds As Qantas Holds Firm 31/05/2010 3:15:02 PM By Greg Peel I have never been a fan of longer term investment in airlines. Traders can find shorter term price fluctuations to exploit, but historically airlines are struggling businesses unless they can sufficiently lever off route protection. If the global economy is solid, holiday-makers and business executives take to the sky, bringing more planes out of hangers and even more airlines into being, thus increasing competition. Just look at...

A Flight Attendant, Boston Layover, and a YAK

May 21, 2010
By
I love Boston in the spring. The birds are chirping and sunning themselves. If you ask me, this one maybe a little too much.

As a Flight Attendant for one of the ‘biggies’, I’m often asked “what do you do on your layovers?”  Well, not that often really. Maybe twice. And one of those times, it was a misunderstanding on my part. What he actually said was “lady, what you need is a makeover!” Anyway, on layovers and during my down time, I cannot be constantly chained to this laptop, creating, researching, cutting, copying, and pasting! I need to get out and enjoy...

The BEST headline so far! And the only reason we're posting this story. Chip can't stop laughing!

By Meg Marco, The Consumerist An Olsen twin was flying from JFK to to Los Angeles when the United Airlines plane she was traveling in caught on fire and had to land in DC. EW says an electrical fire caused a crack in the planes windshield. USA Today Reports “For airports and airlines, creative recycling brings cost savings”

May 12, 2010
By
Delta Air Lines recycles worn seat covers through Tierra Ideas, which turns them into messenger bags and other travel accessories

By Harriet Baskas, special for USA TODAY A recent Scientific American story noted that, with the help of airlines, the 30 largest airports in the country create “enough waste to equal the trash produced by cities the size of Miami or Minneapolis.” That sounds pretty dire, but in the days before airports embraced the”‘reduce, reuse, recycle” mantra and before airlines adopted their current penny-pinching mode, it was worse. Today, it’s a much different story. Most airports at least have...
